Layne Heavy Civil, (Colorado Springs) – Project Safety Manager – 3-14 to Present

Employed by Aerotek and contracted to Layne Heavy Civil for a six month contract.  Layne Heavy Civil has a contract with the city of Colorado Springs, CO, to install a 36” water line buried in trenches at a depth of 15’.  Trenches were excavated with the use of an excavator and trench boxes used for safety access.  Exposures included the crossing of existing buried utilities (gas, electric, fiber optics & sewer) and overhead power lines.

Balfour Beatty Rail Inc., (Pueblo, CO) – Project Safety Manager – 6-13 to 9-13

Employed by Aerotek and contracted to Balfour Beatty Rail for a short term contract.  Balfour Beatty had a contract to build a railroad test track at Transportation Technology Center east of Pueblo, CO.  Construction of the test track included the laying of railroad ties, track, associated materials to complete the connection of the track and ballast (rock) beneath the track.  Project also included the installation of an overhead catenary line. Project was completed without any accidents.

Complete Safety, (Superior, CO) – Project Safety Manager – 8-12 to 9-12

Was employed as an independent safety consultant for a specific portion of a demolition project that included removal of lead, arsenic, and cadmium from contaminated soils at an abandoned silver mine in Aspen, CO.  I supervised the removal of the contaminated materials and their transfer by truck to an alternate location for safe storage underground.  During the removal of contaminated soils I had to perform individual air sampling on personnel to ensure non-hazardous working environment.  Also, monitored environmental exposure to heavy metals present in the work area.  After the contaminated soils were removed safely, the project site was ready for the additional construction phase to begin and my responsibilities were completed.

Apollo Construction, (Kennewick, WA) –Project Safety Manager – 5-12 to 6-12

Apollo Construction was a subcontractor to Washington Closure at the Hanford, WA Nuclear Remediation Project.  Duties included industrial hygiene sampling of the work environment, supervisor training and job site surveys.  The project was cut short because of lack of funding from the general contractor and Department of Energy.

Dade Moeller and Associates, (Richland, WA) – Project Safety Manager – 2-11 to 9-11

Dade Moeller & Associates provides a full range of professional and technical services in environment, safety, health and quality assurance. Also, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene remediation services for the Department of Energy with subcontracts at Washington Closure Hanford and CHM2Hill in Richland, WA.  Duties included industrial hygiene sampling of the work environment, supervisor safety training and job site surveys.  No reported recordable injuries while on this project.

JKT Development, Inc.  (Bellevue, WA) – Safety Director – 2-09 to 3-10    

JKT is a Native American 8 (a) general contractor developing a $22M training facility for the US Navy at Naval Station Everett, WA.  Duties included implementation of health, safety and industrial hygiene air sampling, noise monitoring with personnel dosimeters.    Project completed with only two minor non-loss time injuries.

Sukut Construction (Santa Ana, CA) – Divisional Safety Manager – 8-07 to 1-09

Sukut is a general contractor with public works contracts and this division held over $100M in government contracts.  Duties included training management in safety policies and procedures: identify and develop safety training programs; conducted work site audits with industrial hygiene testing for hazardous environments and incident reviews.  Crews completed 15-consecutive months without a recordable injury.

JKT Development, Inc. (Bellevue, WA) – Project Safety Director – 5-05 to 7-07

JKT is a Native American 8 (a) general contractor completing a $98M project for the US Army at Ft. Carson, CO.  Contract called for the renovation of 14 three-story military barracks.  Duties included Competent Person training for all supervisory personnel, safety training for two safety interns and safety audits for all subcontractors.  Conducted IH surveying for asbestos in old military barracks.  Operated five-gas monitoring instruments in confined space to detect solvents and air quality.  Project completed with only one minor lost-time incident.

Turner Construction (Colorado Springs, CO) – Project Safety Manager – 3-04 to 5-05

Turner Construction acting as the general contractor on this $100M five-story Women and Children’s Hospital for Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.  My duties included, new hire orientations and training supervisory personnel, work-site audits for compliance with established project rules and regulations and safety audits of all subcontractors.  IH sampling for asbestos exposures and confined space work environments.

ASI RCC Inc. (Buena Vista, CO) – Project Safety Director – 8-00 to 3-04

ASI RCC had a four-year contract with the US Army Corps of Engineers to build four 24’ diameter penstock extensions and encase penstocks in concrete at the Bluestone Dam in Hinton, WV.  My duties included competent person training, OSHA 30-Hour training, substance abuse testing and new hire orientations.  Conducted incident investigations, work site inspections and maintained all OSHA reports, training records and personnel files.  Conducted industrial hygiene testing in confined spaces and abatement programs for lead exposure.  Project completed with only four minor recordable incidents over the four-year period.

Travelers Insurance (Denver, CO) - Sr Risk Management Consultant – 7-98 to 8-00

While with Travelers Insurance I was assigned 20-large construction accounts located throughout Colorado.  Duties included interfacing with our policy-holder on a regular basis to audit their safety programs and help develop additional programs to support the overall corporate objective.
